O universo de
todas as imagens

I = CP C = cores por píxel  ·  P = número de píxeis

A Mona Lisa.

I

Finitude geradora

Vitor Lima · Fernando C. Gaspar — Biomimetics, MDPI 2026

Paralelo — IA Bio-Inspirada

Marcadores que sentem o espaço

A explosão combinatória do Pixelverse torna a pesquisa exaustiva computacionalmente inviável.

The universe of
all possible
images

The Pixelverse is a digital space where every image that ever existed, exists now, or will exist can be generated through finite pixel combinations. A framework where combinatorics, philosophy and artificial intelligence converge.

I = CP C = colours per pixel  ·  P = number of pixels

What is the Pixelverse?

A finite digital universe of immeasurable scale, containing every past, present and future image — generated not by conscious design, but by the combinatorial exhaustion of pixel space.

The Pixelverse begins from a simple observation: a digital screen is a pixel grid, each pixel capable of assuming a finite number of colours. The total number of possible images on a Full HD screen with 16 million colours is 16,777,2162,073,600 — a number exceeding the count of atoms in the observable universe by orders of magnitude. But it is finite.

From this finiteness emerges the central proposition: any image we can imagine — or that ever existed — is contained in this space. The Mona Lisa. A photograph of you tomorrow. Events yet to happen. Everything exists, in potential, as a specific pixel combination.

The concept resonates with Borges's Library of Babel — but here the alphabet is visual, and the library is the screen itself. The decisive difference: the Pixelverse is not a literary metaphor. It is a verifiable computational fact.

"The finite can generate the perception of the infinite. The message is deeply optimistic: we do not need infinity to have greatness."

Vitor Lima — From Pixel to Cosmos, Crivosoft 2025

I — total number of possible images

Foundational Principles

The Pixelverse rests on four pillars articulating its mathematical, philosophical, ethical and bio-inspired dimensions.

I

Generative finiteness

The Pixelverse is vast but finite. It is this finiteness — not an impossible infinity — that makes it philosophically powerful. Discrete systems produce apparently boundless complexity, much like quantum physics or DNA.

II

Determinism vs. randomness

By systematically generating all combinations, the Pixelverse guarantees no possible image is omitted — unlike stochastic methods. This exhaustiveness redefines the relationship between chance, creativity and necessity.

III

Ethical implications

If the Pixelverse contains all possible images, it contains real faces, private moments, future events. Privacy, authorship and the predictive impact of imagery become central AI governance questions.

IV

Synthetic Somatic Markers

The Pixelverse serves as a testbed for bio-inspired AI. Damásio's Somatic Marker Hypothesis is translated into synthetic markers guiding agents through combinatorial space without exhaustive computation.

"The combinatorial explosion is not an obstacle — it is proof that the visual complexity of reality is finite and mappable, provided we have the right language to navigate it."

Vitor Lima · Fernando C. Gaspar — Biomimetics, MDPI 2026

From Pixelverse to Visualverse

The Pixelverse is two-dimensional. The Visualverse expands this logic to additional dimensions — molecular, atomic, subatomic — and challenges the limits of visual representation of reality.

Visualverse

Beyond the screen: the visual space of hidden dimensions

The Visualverse incorporates additional dimensions into image space: depth, time, molecular structure. If the Pixelverse contains all possible images on a flat surface, the Visualverse expands that space to the visual representation of all physical reality — including what is invisible to the naked eye. The question it poses is radical: if all physical reality is finite and discrete, can the Visualverse contain all possible configurations of matter?

Parallel — Digital Physics

The universe as pixel

The computational universe hypothesis proposes that space, time, matter and energy are discrete and quantised — not continuous. Quantum mechanics has already shown that energy comes in discrete packets. The Pixelverse offers a pedagogical parallel: if we understand the apparent infinity of a digital screen, we can accept that the cosmic continuum may itself be a magnified finite illusion.

Parallel — Bio-Inspired AI

Markers that feel the space

The combinatorial explosion of the Pixelverse makes exhaustive search computationally intractable. Inspired by Damásio, Synthetic Somatic Markers (SSMs) translate affective signals into scalar valence, guiding agents without modelling subjective feelings. A single evaluative dimension produces non-trivial adaptive behaviour in this stochastic grid-world.
